Foreign investors make up 8.7% of Spanish population
New figures have shown that overseas property investors in Spain are contributing to the fact that 8.7 per cent of the country's population is now made up by foreigners.
Spain's National Institute of Statistics has released data showing that 3.88 million of the country's 44.39 million population are from foreign countries.
This level of 8.7 per cent is a significant increase from the 2.2 per cent that was recorded at the beginning of the decade.
The country's main regions of Catalonia, where 866,800 foreign residents are registered, Madrid, Murcia and Valencia are the most popular for overseas property investors.
British people are fourth in the list of foreign nationalities residing in Spain, with Moroccans making up 13.77 per cent of the community, followed by Ecuadorians and Romanians.
Overseas property investors from the UK account for seven per cent of the total population, with 274,000 people living in Spain, although they are identified as the fastest growing group, with around 45,000 people arriving last year.
