Spanish property set for tourism boost

Spanish property is set to receive a boost in exposure this summer, with figures showing that tourism in the Costa del Sol region is expected to reach a ten-year high.

Overseas property investors considering Spain will contribute to a hotel occupancy level of 85 per cent this summer – higher than last season despite the fact that there is more hotel accommodation available this year.

Juan Fraile, chairman of the Costa del Sol tourist board, said that the expectations for tourism are positive for the region and indicate that it is currently moving forward, according to the Sur newspaper.

"This year is a good one, from a point of view of hotel accommodation. If we focus on the peak season it is clear that this is going to be one of their best since 2000," Mr Fraile said.

"If last year saw the recovery of the Costa del Sol, this year we are going one step further and starting to grow again."

Salvador Vilches, president of the Association of Costa del Sol Hoteliers, was equally optimistic, saying that traditional tour operators as well as online companies had posted good results recently, contributing to the level of activity in the area.
